The DAISY Award is an international recognition program started in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Pat’s family experienced first-hand the difference his nurses made in his care through clinical excellence and outstanding compassionate care. The family created The DAISY Award to express gratitude to nurses and to enable other patients, families, and staff to thank and honor their special nurses. A branch of the DAISY Award, the DAISY International Neuroscience Nurse Leadership Award, is the World Federation of Neuroscience Nurses’ is awarded at the annual Symposium.

A DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses in Neuroscience
The British Association of Neuroscience Nurses (BANN) is a national neuroscience nursing organization whose purpose is to support and enhance the development of competence in neuroscience nursing in the United Kingdom through education, exchange of information, evidence-informed practice and research.
The vision of BANN is to be a leading authority, to inspire passion in nurses to create a future for the specialty. Optimal patient outcomes require nursing to be pivotal in the delivery of a comprehensive framework for neuroscience care with the value of the nursing contribution to the multi-disciplinary aspects of neuroscience care acknowledged as central in healthcare provision.
BANN is proud to announce the launch of the first DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses in Neuroscience
A DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses in Neuroscience is given annually to a deserving neuroscience nurse. The selection criteria are based on the joint values of the DAISY Foundation and BANN. Recipients of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses in Neuroscience will:
· Demonstrate outstanding neuroscience clinical skills
· Share expertise by educating nurses, patients, and families
· Participate in continuing education and professional development activities
· Model respectful relationships with patients, families, and members of the healthcare team
· Utilize scientific knowledge and innovative strategies in providing care to neuroscience patients, improving safety and patient outcomes
· Serve as a mentor for other nurses
How is a nurse chosen to receive The DAISY Award Extraordinary Nurses in Neuroscience?
A DAISY Award is given to a deserving Extraordinary Nurses in Neuroscience once a year.
Who selects the winner of the Award?
A selection committee comprised of members of the BANN Executive Board will be formed annually. They will be tasked with reviewing all submitted nomination applications, selecting and announcing the winner.
What will the recipient receive in recognition?
- A certificate held in a handsome portfolio, proclaiming the recipient an “Extraordinary Neuroscience Nurse”
- A DAISY Award pin
